Meet The Herd

The mother of our group, Maggie, is calm, docile and adorable! Like all Clydesdales she moves at her own pace but you can trust she will achieve whatever she sets her mind to! Maggie is Derek’s mum and the two share a strong bond and are often seen cosying up.

Named after Derek Zoolander for his impossibly good looks, Derek is certainly the most visually striking of our herd! After an extremely traumatic entry into the world which had us believe he wasn’t going to make it, Derek has become an integral part of the herd and our family (he is the only one to have his own Instagram page! a_horse_called_derek). Derek is an instant friend of everyone he meets, he is trustworthy, sweet and can always be counted on for even the most nervous newcomers.

Cheeky but oh so loveable, Mitch is the “Peter Pan” of our little herd. Despite his age (almost 20!), he has no interest in ever growing up! Despite this Mitch is reliable and steady, although he can also be pretty single-minded, especially if you are asking him to move faster than a snail’s pace! What he lacks in work ethic he makes up for in sass and personality!

Ellie at 24 yrs old is inquisitive and sweet and is an old hand with children of all ages and this shines through in her softness with young ones. Ellie captured our hearts almost twenty years ago and has been a family favourite ever since. But a warning….she is capable of stealing everyone’s heart, young and old.

Rolly at 18 is also very used to being around children and he too has shown a deep connection with some of our younger clients. As with most ponies he makes up for his small stature through his huge personality, and can on occasion also display some wilful pony traits, which means he is a wonderful to team with.

Not quite sure if Trapper’s name does him justice!  Being a stunning palomino and just so darn pretty, he has a personality to match his looks.  Sensitive, curious and calm Trapper is not only beautiful but has a soft heart to match, ensuring he is one of our client’s favourites to partner with.

The regal old man of the herd.  Badger, 28 yrs has understandably “been there, done it all”!  Starting life as a race horse, Badger has been retired on our property for over 10 years.  His beautiful, gentle nature will capture your heart.

Hard to explain how much magic Gregory can create in a very short space of time.  At 20 years old, Gregory feels like an old soul and when he leans his body into you, he is saying that he too feels the need for companionship and a cuddle.

If Gregory is an old soul, Murphy is the young “court jester”.  Hard to contain in a paddock, follows you around like a pup and just loves hanging with people.  His Irish Donkey heritage means that he is smaller and more compact than Gregory but ever so cute and furry especially in the colder winter months.

Yoshi is the newest addition to our herd, arriving in June 2022. At 20 years old Yoshi comes to us with a lifetime of experiences from show pony to riding school pony, therapy pony and lots in between. His calming but charming nature can be quite unassuming, but he is just so loveable and enjoys scratch and a cuddle from everyone. Yoshi has been paddocked alone for a long time and is cherishing his place in the herd with his newfound paddock mates. He has bonded particularly closely with Trapper, the beautiful palomino.
